Data Mirroring with File Versioning

This guide shows you step by step how to set up data mirroring with file versioning using AllSync. File versioning allows you to store multiple versions of a file so you can access older versions when needed.

How File Versioning Works

  • Each file that is overwritten or deleted during data mirroring receives a sequential file extension: .0001, .0002, etc.
  • These versions are stored in a backup folder.
  • Once the maximum number of versions is reached:
    • the oldest version (.0001) is deleted,
    • and all other versions are renamed: .0002 becomes .0001, etc.
Example:
If the file info.txt has been backed up seven times, the backup folder will contain the versions: info.txt.0001 to info.txt.0007.

1. Create Profile

  • Create a new profile.
  • Cancel the profile assistant if it starts.

2. Configure Profile

  • Select Copy Mode from the menu.
    • Select the copy mode '1:1 Copy'.
  • Select Folders from the menu.
    • Add the source folder containing the data to be mirrored to the source folder list.
    • Add the destination folder to the destination folder list.
  • Select Data Protection from the menu.
    • Select the option 'Move files and folders to a backup folder'.
    • Choose the backup folder where the file versions should be stored.
    • Disable the option 'Create subfolder in backup folder'.
    • Enable the option 'Create backup generations' and define the desired number of versions per file.

3. Save Settings

  • Save the settings using the OK button.
