Data Mirroring to an FTP Server

This guide shows you step by step how to perform data mirroring to an FTP server using AllSync.

1. FTP Software

To perform data mirroring to an FTP server, additional software such as NetDrive is required. This software maps a directory on the FTP server to a local drive letter. The following guide is based on using the freeware NetDrive 1.3.4.

Important Note
Comparing files by modification date is not reliably possible on FTP servers. When copying to an FTP server, files automatically receive the server's current date. This date cannot be changed afterward, as the FTP file system does not support this function.

2. Configure FTP Software

  • Start NetDrive and create a new connection.
  • Enter all necessary FTP details in the right-hand menu of the new connection.
  • Set Z: as the drive letter.

3. Create Profile

  • Create a new profile
  • If the profile assistant starts, cancel it.

4. Configure Profile

  • Select Copy Mode from the menu.
    • Select the copy mode 'Custom'.
  • Select Copy Rules from the menu.
    • Enable the rule 'Overwrite file if file size is different' under 'Rules for overwriting files'.
  • Select the Delete option below the Copy Rules menu.
    • Enable the option 'Delete data in destination that does not exist in source'.
  • Select Folders from the menu.
    • Add the folder containing the files to be copied to the source folder list.
    • Add the Z: drive to the destination folder list.

5. Save Settings

  • Save the settings using the OK button.

6. Test Settings

  • Switch to NetDrive and connect the FTP directory to drive letter Z:.
  • Use your profile to create a copy preview to verify the result of your settings.
