Securely Delete Files Using an External Program
This guide shows you step by step how to create a profile that uses the SDelete program to securely delete all files that have not been modified in the last 30 days.1. Prepare the 'SDelete' Program
- Download the free SDelete program from the official Microsoft website.
- Extract the ZIP file to the D:\Tools folder or any folder of your choice.
2. Create Profile
- Create a new profile.
- Cancel the profile assistant if it appears.
- Enable the expert view.
3. Configure Profile
- Select Copy Mode from the menu.
- Select the copy mode 'Custom'.
- Select Copy Method from the menu.
- Select Copy Method D.
- Enable the option 'External copy program'.
- Enter the following path in the text field: D:\Tools\sdelete.exe
- Enter the following command line parameters: -p "%1"
- Select Folders from the menu.
- Add the folder containing the files to be deleted to the source folder list.
- Create an empty folder and add it to the destination folder list.
- Select Filter from the menu and create a new filter with the following properties:
- Filter Action: Exclude
- Filter Type: Age (Not older than)
- Filter Target: Source
- Comparison Criterion: File modification date
- Age: 30 days
- Select Data Protection from the menu.
- Select the option 'Do not back up any files or folders'.
4. Save Settings
- Save the settings using the OK button.
5. Test Settings
- Create a copy preview of the profile.
- All files marked with the 'Copy file to the right' symbol in the copy preview will be securely deleted during the copy operation.
